
Amalia Duarte
Amalia Duarte is serving her third term on the Mendham Township Committee after being re-election in 2023. She was the first Democrat to win a seat on the Township Committee, when she first ran for public office in 2017.
She is a member of the township's Planning Board; founder and Chair of the Mendhams Stigma-Free Task Force; and serves as liaison to the Ad Hoc Marketing Committee, Environmental Commission, First Aid Squad, Mendham TV, Old Police Reuse, Shared Court, and Surrounding Town Outreach.
Amalia is a Board member of Head Start of Morris County; the Schiff Nature Preserve; The Sharing Project, and a Past President of the Rotary Club of the Mendhams.
She is also Chair of the Morris County Democratic Committee, becoming the first woman elected to the position in 2022. In this volunteer role, she has oversight of the Democratic Municipal Committees in all 39 Morris County towns that work to engage voters and elect Democrats from local to federal office.
Amalia earned a Bachelor of Art degree from New York University, with a double major in journalism and political science. She worked in newspapers and magazines before a career in corporate communications at Citigroup, Lucent, and Avaya. Subsequently, she has been the Public Affairs Director for 15 years at a nonprofit, ECLC of New Jersey. She also serves on the Public Affairs Committee for ASAH, a statewide organization for schools/agencies serving individuals with special needs.
Previously, Amalia was a longtime community volunteer, serving for many years on the township’s Recreation Commission, including as the Chair, and served as Vice Chair of the Board of Adjustment and as a member and Chair of the Open Space Trust Committee. She also volunteered as a youth sports coach in basketball and soccer and served on the Board of the West Morris Soccer Club and a Commissioner with the Mendham Patriots Basketball League.
