A record 57 women have filed to run for U.S. Senate offices in the 2020 elections, according to data from the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP), a unit of the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University. The previous record of 53 women Senate candidates was set during the historic 2018 midterms. Democratic women have beaten their prior record of 31, with 35 women running in Senate races this year, and Republican women have tied their former high of 22; both of these previous party records were set in 2018. In six states, filing data has either not yet been reported or filing deadlines have yet to pass, so these record margins are likely to increase.
