Primary elections were held on Tuesday in Tennessee. Full results for women in these races are available on this post on our Election Analysis page; there are multiple undecided races with women candidates in Arizona. The full results post will update as these contests are decided.
Among the most notable results for women:
- Both incumbent women representing Arizona in Congress – U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I) and U.S. Representative Debbie Lesko (R) – did not run for re-election. Maintaining women’s representation in Arizona’s congressional delegation will necessitate success among non-incumbent women running as challengers or for open seats.
- Kari Lake, the Republican nominee for governor of Arizona in 2022, won the Republican nomination for Arizona’s open U.S. Senate seat. This contest is currently rated as “Lean Democrat” by Cook Political Report.
- With multiple contests still too close to call, both women who have thus far won nominations for the U.S. House are Democrats challenging Republican incumbents in the general election.
- Women are 50% of nominees for Arizona’s three seats on the corporation commission, including incumbent Commissioner Lea Márquez Peterson (R).
